Badajoz, April 1st, 2024, Badajoz-based computer scientist Martín Gamero Prieto has launched the campaign for his third book on graphics cards, The lost legacy at the Arcade Vintage Museum.

As part of the presentation, he talked about how this hobby of searching for lost data about these companies came about and gave insights into each of them, in particular their impact on today’s world.

He also looked at the relationship of these companies with console manufacturers, the leap to the mobile phone market, how they were involved in the fledging Internet and, above all, the graphics cards they launched.

This book looks at the story from a completely new perspective and serves as a continuation and support to The legacy of 3dfx and The legacy of the forgotten. It looks at more than two dozen companies. Most of the information has been obtained from former workers and staff from these companies.

The target of the crowdfunding campaign for the publication of his third book is €7,000, which would allow him to publish the book in Spanish and English in three editions:

• Blade3D: ebook.
• Rendition: physical book.
• WARP5: physical book, t-shirt and A2 poster in an exclusive design box for Kickstarter.

At the presentation, it was possible to purchase the collector’s editions of previous books, dubbed the Rampage and Bitboys editions, as well as the special edition of id Software: Between soldiers, demons and polygons.

The rewards proposed as part of the campaign include a special chapter on Intel, a photographic annex and a technology special.

Shipments are expected to take place at the end of 2024.

My time is limited and there won’t be many, although I want to continue with Grafcast and talk a bit about how future projects are going. The idea is to follow the idea of the old .plan to talk about the progress of the projects. Other texts will be canceled parts of books or gameplays. • The quality of the photos in the English version is increased.

Computer expert, Martín Gamero, seeks funding to publish his second book on ’90s graphics card companies.

Computer expert, Martín Gamero, will present today at the Arcade Vintage Video Game Museum in Ibi, Alicante, the crowdfunding campaign for the publication of his second book on graphics cards, The Legacy of the Forgotten, which is a continuation of his research on companies who made history in the ’90s within this sector. This book details four companies that were unable to outlast the changes that took place: S3, Matrox, VideoLogic/Imagination Technologies and BitBoys. This book is a continuation of The Legacy of 3dfx, his first work on this subject that was published in 2019.

The Legacy of the Forgotten follows these companies from their very origins, through their struggles to gain a foothold in the home 3D market, their fall from grace and the changes they made to save themselves, providing us with the information we need to understand the current state of this technology.

Moreover, it details their relationships with console and arcade cabinet manufacturers, in particular SEGA, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Gaelco and SNK. It also analyzes the games that were developed exclusively for those companies.

The goal of this crowdfunding campaign is to raise 9000 euros to publish the book in English, Spanish, and in three editions:

• ViRGE: the e-book.

• Kyro: the book with a dust jacket.

• Bitboys: the book in hardcopy with a dust jacket and a poster (A2 size), in a box designed exclusively for this Kickstarter campaign.

The Rampage edition of The Legacy of 3dfx is also available for purchase with the special edition of the book about id Software: Between soldiers, demons, and polygons.

The current rewards include a special section on graphics terminology, a chapter on the Number Nine company and an annex with images of the graphics cards.

Three native translators will translate the book into English. The layout will be performed by C2O Comunicación and the covers have been designed by Manuel Ruiz, Webmaster of Legacy del pixel, and Laura Rivas. The text has been edited and reviewed by María R. Coco with the help of Alejandro Gómez de la Muñoza.

Computer expert and author, Martín Gamero, launches his new book on id Software and the video games that made them famous: Commander Keen, Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake and Orcs & Elves.

Entre soldados, demonios y polígonos: Una retrospectiva de id Software [Soldiers, Demons and Polygons: A Retrospective of id Software] examines the history of this company, creator of one of the most significant gaming engines of all time, from 1990 to present day. The book is organised into sections that focus on the company’s most well-known sagas, analysing the development, history and impact that each had on the world of digital entertainment, and also includes a complete catalogue of objects, weapons and enemies. In addition, the publication takes a look at the expansions, ports and merchandising for each series that form a part of the same universe.

Martín Gamero also delves into other companies related to id Software, including publishers such as Apogee and 3D Realms, and developers such as Raven Software and Lobotomy, up until the former’s acquisition by Zenimax Media (now owned by Microsoft).

The book will be published in Spanish both as an ebook and in two hardcopy versions: the Standard Edition, which will include a bookmark and a keyring, available until 3 March; and the Collector’s Edition, produced in a limited-quantity print run, which will include the book, a T-shirt, an exclusive box and a keyring.
